If you expected more of your life than you have yet achieved and you believe that learning how to find a mentor could assist you, you are in the right place, right now. Your solution is here! Knowing #how to find a mentor will be valuable throughout your life; this is where you can learn about it.
“Colleagues are a wonderful thing – but mentors, that’s where the real work gets done.” Junot Diaz
What is a mentor?
A mentor is a person who has the knowledge and experience that you need and could benefit you in your life at this time, AND is willing to teach you or impart that knowledge, wisdom or experience to you. They are a little like a coach in some respects, except that they guide more than teach, and their wisdom and vast experience is there for you to learn from.
“So what makes a mentor unique? A mentor is an individual willing to become part of a supportive and diverse community of learners, open to sharing experiences, vulnerability, and expertise. A mentor is a person who models the need to continue learning as a life-long adventure. S/he is a person who has learned through success as well as challenge. A mentor realizes that respect is always an earned commodity. And a mentor accepts others in humanity.” Eric Tonningsen’s “Awakening to Awareness”
This quote from Eric Tonningsen pretty much sums it up – what it is to be and/or have a mentor. His recent blog “YOU AS YODA” really nailed mentorship!
How could a mentor benefit you?
Experience is what is missing when you start something new. Anything new. A new job, a new business, a new course. It’s why an older child is assigned to a new enrollee at some schools, so the younger child gets to learn their way around, from someone who knows. A master trades’ person takes on an apprentice, and so on. However, mentoring is more often associated now with business knowledge and experience. A person starting a new business can often learn a great deal more, and more quickly, by regularly meeting with an experienced or even retired business person, and just talking about their issues. Knowing how to find a mentor when you need one could be the key to your success at the moment you need it.
There are professional mentors too, people who hire themselves out for their expertise, take positions on company boards or advisory boards and positions in companies where their experience can be accessed. Often, these are very highly paid positions and only involve a few hours a week of advisory work. This type of person could be on many boards at once, and schedule their time between board meetings. However, as a general rule, a person looking for a mentor will have a more localised and specific need, rather than a chairman of the board role to fill. How to find a mentor whose experience specifically suits your needs is important.
How to find a mentor?
First of all, what do you want to learn? Where would a person with that type knowledge and experience be found? And when you find them, the key question is how to retain their services at a value or a level of exchange you can afford?
Often, when one mentor is needed, you actually need a lot of mentor services, because the need suggests a start-up business or venture, and typically, there are a number of disciplines required in that circumstance. You need to find all the expertise for the venture and gather it together in the one place where you can access it as required. Whilst it sounds like a huge challenge, actually, it’s easier than you would think, and can be a most enjoyable experience. Learning how to find a mentor and the journey of being mentored can be exciting, exhilarating, fun and very rewarding!
The best way to achieve this situation is through a structured program that systematically:
- creates awareness of your issues and limitations
- teaches you how to correct or improve them
- teaches you how to find a mentor to suit your needs
- teaches you how to create a support network and mastermind team around you
- eliminates limiting fears, phobias and beliefs
- teaches you to set appropriate goals in all areas of your life and then how to achieve them
- consolidates your new awareness and better habits into unconscious success behaviours
- ensures your financial situation supports your new goals
- and gives you the tools to maintain the success you achieve for life.
Over three months you achieve heightened awareness of any issues and limitations facing you and standing in your way of achieving your goals. You will learn strategies, solutions and antidotes to those issues, and replace them with habits of success that will become part of your subconscious programming. This programming automatically sets you up for success. Being embedded subconsciously as success habits gives you a lifelong program of continued consolidation of your successes.

How much does it cost?
Depending on your currency, it could be as little as the cost of a coffee a week, and it is probable that within a fortnight, your new habits will have saved you more than the total cost of the 90 day program and that money will be in your bank account or wallet!
